The Old Bishop's Palace at the foot of the Cathedral, the most ancient sections of which go back to the 11th century, has - since 1918 - housed the Historical Museum of Lausanne which was entirely renovated between 1986 and 1990.

As visitors proceed along the varied and colourful itinerary, they will see unfolding before them the history of the City from the prehistoric era to the present day. The itinerary is dotted with attractive audio- visual displays

One gallery is devoted entirely to Lausanne silverware from the 18th ans 19th centuries.
The gold ans silversmiths of Lausanne, often French Protestant refugees, developed an original and soberly elegant style.
